HINTON, W.Va. (AP) - State police say officers responding to a domestic violence complaint have fatally shot the ex-husband of a woman at her home.

State police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous says the incident occurred Saturday morning in Hinton.

Baylous says a trooper from the Hinton detachment and a Summers County sheriff’s deputy responded and were met in the street by Mika Gumm.

She told officers that her ex-husband, Shane Gumm, had broken into her house, stabbed her boyfriend and assaulted her with a knife. Upon entering the home, the officers found Shane Gumm in a hallway with a large hunting knife.

The officers ordered him to drop the knife so they could assist Mika Gumm’s boyfriend. Shane Gumm refused to comply and made aggressive moves toward the officers, who fired their service weapons.
