SEATTLE (AP) - Home plate umpire Scott Barry left the game between the Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals before the fourth inning after appearing to take a wild pitch off his right hand.

Barry was hit in the hand during the second inning Saturday night when Yordano Ventura bounced a 1-0 pitch in front of the plate. Barry remained behind the plate for the third, although the game was played with three umpires while crew chief Jeff Nelson changed into protective gear. Nelson had been umpiring at first base.

Barry was escorted off the field before the fourth inning by a member of the Mariners training staff and the game continued with three umpires.
