PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A brief look at the third round of The Players Championship on Saturday at the TPC Sawgrass:

LEADING: Martin Kaymer (72) and Jordan Spieth (71) at 12-under 204.

IN THE HUNT: Sergio Garcia (69), who won The Players six years ago, was three shots behind with John Senden (68).

FALLING: Justin Rose was five shots out of the lead until he was penalized two shots on the 18th hole for his ball moving at address. He had to look at three television replays before it was conclusive the ball moved. The penalty gave him a 73 and he went to seven shots behind.

SHOT OF THE DAY: Facing a blind shot from the side of a mound 240 yards away, Jordan Spieth hit hybrid to pin-high in a bunker and saved par on the 14th hole.

ROUND OF THE DAY: Francesco Molinari, Ryan Moore and Brandt Snedeker at 67. Moore and Snedeker had made the 36-hole cut on the number. They moved into a tie for 13th place.

KEY STATISTIC: Spieth is the first player since Greg Norman in 1994 to go bogey-free over the first 54 holes at The Players Championship.

RACE TO NO. 1: Adam Scott (tie for 28th) has to finish in a two-way tie for 16th or better to replace Tiger Woods at No. 1 in the world. Henrik Stenson (tie for 13th) has to finish in a two-way tie for sixth or better. Bubba Watson (tie for 13th) has to finish alone in second. Matt Kuchar (tie for 13th) would have to win.

NOTEWORTHY: Angel Cabrera had the only shot into the water on the island-green 17th hole. That’s a record for fewest balls in the water in one round at Sawgrass since such statistics started being kept in 2003.

QUOTEWORTHY: “It requires good short putting, a good feel around the greens, good lies and good bounces, a mix of all of that. I don’t think I’ve really ever done that in a tournament.” - Jordan Spieth, on what it takes to go bogey-free over 54 holes.
