JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of an 83-year-old man whose body was found in a skiff.
The body of Robert Lesher was found Tuesday in Lisianski Inlet, near Pelican, the Juneau Empire reported (https://is.gd/IMvSMh).
Lesher was returning to Pelican from his cabin three miles away when he was reported overdue, Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters said.
A search team of volunteers found him slumped over the controls of his skiff, which was adrift along the west shore of the inlet and the engine was running. He was taken to a local clinic, but efforts to revive him weren’t successful.
Troopers were notified of the death just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Peter said. Next of kin have been notified.
Even though there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, Peters said state law requires all unattended deaths to be investigated.
The state medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy.
According to a state database, Pelican is located on the northwest coast of Chichagof Island. It’s located about 80 miles north of Sitka and 70 miles west of Juneau.
