ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s inspector general says an oral surgeon faces a grand larceny charge, accused of overbilling the state more than $14,000 for costly dental work on inmates.
Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott says 45-year-old Timothy J. O’Keefe of Amherst also faces 40 counts of filing false documents from 2009 to 2011 while under state contract for oral surgery at more than two dozen prisons.
O’Keefe pleaded not guilty and posted $10,000 bail after troopers brought him from the Buffalo area to Albany for arraignment.
Defense attorney Terry Kindlon says the state’s claims are groundless.
