CHICAGO (AP) - Nigerians living in Chicago have held a rally downtown to press for the rescue of nearly 300 girls being held by an extremist group in Nigeria.
The girls were seized from a school on April 15 by Boko Haram, which seeks to impose Islamic law in Nigeria.
Demonstrations in support of the girls have been held around the world.
Several hundred people turned out for Saturday’s rally in Chicago, including the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who says he’s willing to travel to Nigeria to help with negotiations if asked by the Obama administration.
Rally participants held signs with names of some of the missing girls along with the BringBackOurGirls hashtag being used by a social media campaign.
The U.S. and other countries have sent experts to assist the Nigerian government’s effort.
