OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Gov. Phil Bryant says Mississippi has weathered a lot of hard times, and University of Mississippi graduates must expect to carry on under challenges like those the state has come through.

He told more than 10,000 students and their families Saturday that the state has made it through struggles from the Civil War and the Great Depression to the April 28 tornadoes that destroyed 1,140 homes and 88 businesses in 24 counties.

Bryant says Mississippians are tough and determined, and come through because they know the sun will come out after every storm.
