CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Casper and Natrona County officials hope that voter rejection of a bond issue for school improvements doesn’t mean the optional 1-cent county sales tax will be in trouble when it comes up for renewal in November.
The $33 million school bond issue was defeated Tuesday.
The Casper Star-Tribune reported Saturday (https://tinyurl.com/mppmfxl ) some officials worry voters are in an anti-tax mood and will kill the sales tax, which has been renewed every four years since 1975.
Bill McDowell, chairman of the county commissioners, says the key will be informing people about where the money comes from and where it goes.
City Manager John Patterson says people draw a distinction between new taxes and something like the penny tax, which has been funding projects for 40 years.
