NEW YORK (AP) - Columbia earned the first automatic berth into the NCAA baseball tournament by sweeping Dartmouth 6-2 and 4-1 in the Ivy League championship series Saturday.

Helped by two homers by David Vandercook, Columbia (27-17) won the title for the second straight season and 12th time overall. The Lions also beat Dartmouth (18-21) last year to advance to the NCAA regionals.

Most Division I programs play their conference tournaments in two weeks, so Columbia must wait until May 26 to find out where it will compete in its fourth regional appearance. The Lions won the program’s first NCAA tournament game last year when they beat New Mexico 6-5 in 13 innings before being eliminated by Arizona State.

David Speer (7-2) won the first game, while Kevin Roy (5-4) got the clinching victory.
