MONROE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has condemned a bridge in the Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area because a recent inspection found major repairs were needed.

A news release says a Ouachita Parish inspector recently found the problems on the bridge on the East-West Road.

The department says it will demolish the old bridge and replace it with metal culverts.

Officials say vehicle traffic will be allowed once that’s done. It says the work should be finished well before the fall hunting season.

The wildlife management area is in Morehouse, Ouachita and Richland Parishes, about seven miles east of Monroe and 10 miles west of Rayville.

It can be reached by U.S. Highway 80 and Interstate 20. The department maintains roads within the Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area.
