DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A candlelight vigil is planned to remember a 3-year-old girl who died in an eastern Illinois house fire.

The Commercial-News in Danville reports (https://bit.ly/1pPJZvO) the vigil for Mazzie Cox will be Friday at the site of the fire.

The Vermilion County coroner said the little girl died of smoke inhalation and burns she received during Saturday night’s fire in Danville. Authorities say she was unable to escape the smoke and flames.

Fire officials said the girl’s mother and another 3-year-old were able to crawl out of a second-story window and were treated for injuries. Several other people also escaped.

A friend of the girl’s parents is organizing the vigil so the community can pay their respects.
