LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The University of Kentucky says nearly 430 new trees are scheduled to be planted on its Lexington campus during the next year.

The school says about half the trees will be planted in key areas around campus. The others will be planted near Alumni Drive as part of a federal flood management project.

UK President Eli Capilouto (kap-ih-LOO’-toe) joined in announcing the initiative Wednesday near where a new grove of trees will be planted on the lawn in front of UK’s Main Building. He says the project will enhance the school’s green spaces amid Lexington’s urban environment.

The school says nearly 130 trees are being planted this spring, with another 80 to 100 plantings this fall.

More than 200 trees will be planted next spring as part of the flood management project.
