SELMA, Ala. (AP) - The state is seeking the ouster of Selma’s school superintendent and two other top administrators in the troubled city system.
The Alabama Department of Education is running Selma’s schools following a sex scandal, and interim superintendent Larry DiChiara is recommending the firing of suspended city superintendent Gerald Shirley.
The Selma Times-Journal (https://bit.ly/1fBhbTi ) reports DiChara also wants to fire two other administrators, but the final decision is up to the state school superintendent.
All three employees are currently suspended. They have 15 days to request a hearing.
The state took over Selma’s schools earlier this year after a high school teacher was arrested on charges of having sex with a student.
The teacher pleaded guilty, and a state review found school officials failed to properly investigate the allegations.
