PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - McLaren Health Care has reached an agreement to take over the operations of Port Huron Hospital.

The nonprofit health care system says the deal was finalized Thursday and the hospital will be renamed McLaren Port Huron.

The hospital currently has 186 beds and provides inpatient and outpatient services to St. Clair and Sanilac county residents. It’s the 12th hospital in the McLaren system.

McLaren says in a release that the deal includes a new cancer center, building improvements and upgraded technology.

Groundbreaking for the new cancer center is expected early next year. Construction on a new inpatient tower should start later in 2015.

Flint-based McLaren has 21,000 employees and more than 20,000 network physicians. The health care system’s operations are housed in more than 300 facilities, serving 54 counties.
