SAN DIEGO (AP) - A beloved black jaguar has died at the San Diego Zoo at the ripe old age of 21.
The Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/1mjhLs1 ) says the jaguar, named Orson, was euthanized on Tuesday.
He suffered from a number of geriatric problems and was on pain medicine in recent days before zookeepers concluded that his condition was irreversible.
Orson turned 21 last fall. Jaguars in the wild usually only live 12 to 15 years.
The zoo has said Orson’s age was equivalent to that of a human around 90.
Orson came to the San Diego Zoo in 1993 from Phoenix.
Orson was the oldest cat at the zoo and also the most unusual. The zoo has two other jaguars but they’re not black.
