ATLANTA (AP) - Federal regulators have cited the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Alabama over its emergency plan for staffing the control room.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials said Thursday that the plant didn’t maintain staffing levels in keeping with a radiological emergency plan. The government watchdog agency determined the violation had a low-to-moderate potential impact on safety.
The NRC’s regional administrator, Victor McCree, says it’s important that nuclear plants maintain appropriate staffing and that regulators approve any changes to those plans.
McCree says the Tennessee Valley Authority has agreed to take steps to fix the problem and prevent it from happening in the future.
TVA spokesman Jim Hopson calls the staffing error was an oversight. He says TVA fixed the issue as soon as it learned of the problem.
