PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - It doesn’t look like Republican Senate candidates Monica Wehby and Jason Conger will have a televised debate before the May 20 primary.

The Oregonian newspaper reports (https://is.gd/M44Vx5 ) that Wehby rejected an offer to debate Conger on KGW-TV.

Wehby’s campaign manager, Charlie Pearce, told the newspaper that Wehby’s schedule is “packed solid” and she had already agreed to a May 16 debate at the City Club of Portland before being approached by KGW.

Conger’s campaign manager accused Wehby of avoiding a high-profile debate before a statewide television audience.

Wehby is a Portland pediatric neurosurgeon making her first run for public office. Conger is a state representative from Bend.

The Republican nominee will face Democrat Jeff Merkley in the fall.
