UPTON, N.Y. (AP) - The National Weather Service has issued an urban flood advisory for most of Long Island.

It says heavy rain had ended around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/SdlUR9 ), the weather service warned that “residual minor flooding of urban, low-lying and poor drainage areas” could cause problems for the morning commute.

The weather service urged drivers to avoid roadways with standing water.

The advisory is in effect until 8:30 a.m. A flood watch is in effect until noon.

Nassau County police issued a travel advisory for the south service road of the Long island Expressway. They say the road is closed between Searingtown Road and Shelter Rock Road due to flooding.
