WASHINGTON (AP) - In a story April 30 about a corrections officer smuggling contraband into a Washington jail, The Associated Press, relying on information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, reported erroneously that the charged individual, Lenard Fleming, was a current employee of the Corrections Corporation of America, which runs the jail facility. The company says Fleming was terminated Feb. 11.

Former DC corrections officer charged with bribery, is accused of smuggling cellphone to inmate
WASHINGTON (AP) - A former corrections officer has been arrested and charged with bribery for allegedly smuggling contraband into a Washington jail, the second officer arrested this month.
Prosecutors say 33-year-old Lenard Fleming was arrested Wednesday. He previously worked as a corrections officer with the Corrections Corporation of America, a private company that runs the city’s Correctional Treatment Facility. The medium security facility is next to the D.C. Jail. Prosecutors say while working for the company Fleming met with an undercover FBI agent and agreed to smuggle a cellphone and cigarettes to an inmate in exchange for $750.
Prosecutors say Fleming’s arrest is related to the arrest of 51-year-old Darren Malry who also worked for CCA and was arrested April 21 and also charged with bribery. CCA says both men have been fired.
Both men have pleaded not guilty. Fleming’s next hearing is scheduled for May 14.
