YORK, Pa. (AP) - Police in central Pennsylvania say an off-duty Baltimore police officer charged with shooting a man more than 10 times had been exchanging text messages with the victim’s wife.
Thirty-three-year-old John Torres, an 11-year veteran of the force, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault in Tuesday’s shooting of 34-year-old David Hohman Sr. of Baltimore.
Torres was in uniform at the time of the shooting. Investigators said he fired 14 shots at Hohman, who was in his car after driving from Baltimore to the officer’s apartment in York.
Charging documents by York Area Regional Police allege Hohman believed his wife was romantically involved with the officer.
Torres told investigators he knew Hohman owned a shotgun and feared for his safety.
Hohman was shot six times and hospitalized in stable condition.
