COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - About 118,000 South Carolina residents signed up for health insurance under the new federal health care law,
The data released Thursday by President Barack Obama’s administration shows nearly 214,000 people filled out applications for health care, but about 45 percent of them didn’t complete the process and pick a plan. Those numbers are similar to information from other states.
Nearly 90 percent of the people who enrolled in a health care plan in the state were eligible for government subsidies for the private insurance.
About half of them were between ages 45 and 64, while 57 percent were women. The enrollment data shows nearly three-quarters enrolled in the silver plan instead of the cheapest or the most comprehensive insurance plans.
Enrollment ended March 31.
