CHICAGO (AP) - Aliyyah Handford pumped in 24 points on 8-of-13 shooting to lift No. 2 seed St. John’s to a 66-60 win over seventh-seeded Seton Hall in the Big East women’s tournament quarterfinal Sunday.

In a close contest, St. John’s (21-9) broke away with an 8-2 spurt midway through the second half and later carved out its largest lead of the game on a pair of free throws from Danaejah Grant that made it 58-48 with 6:40 to go. The Red Storm then had hold off a Seton Hall surge down the stretch to advance to a Monday matchup against No. 3 seed Creighton in the semifinals.

Briana Brown contributed 15 points, Danaejah Grant added 10 and Amber Thompson hauled in 10 rebounds for St. John’s.

Seton Hall (18-13) twice closed to within two points in the final minutes, before St. John’s put the game away from the free throw line.
