JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Brandon Presley, who represents north Mississippi on the state Public Service Commission, has been named chairman of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners’ Committee on Consumer Affairs.
Presley replaces outgoing chairwoman Betsy Wergin of Minnesota.
The Committee on Consumer Affairs analyzes the role that state PSC’s play in protecting consumer interests, including the energy and telecommunications industries.
Presley says in a statement that consumers are the ones who bear the burden when utilities need to upgrade and modernize their infrastructure.
The term as chairman is three years.
Presley was elected to the Mississippi PSC in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
Presley also serves as president of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, which is composed of public service commissioners from the 11 Southern states and Puerto Rico.
