MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University’s 2013 national championship rifle team has a date at the White House.
The team is among the NCAA Division I men’s and women’s champions that President Barack Obama will welcome to the South Lawn of the White House on Monday. WVU says it’s a first for a university athletic team.
The Mountaineers won their 15th NCAA title last year at Ohio State. Their coach, Jon Hammond, called the White House visit Monday “a great honor.”
WVU Athletics Director Oliver Luck says team members will remember the day for the rest of their lives.
The visit comes ahead of the No. 1 Mountaineers’ trip to the 2014 NCAA Championships March 14-15 at Murray State.
