PHOENIX (AP) - Supporters hoping to save a dog who bit a boy from being euthanized are calling for the firing of a Maricopa County animal control employee who made fun of their efforts on Facebook.

KTVK-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1qjeGr7) that Vanessa Martinez, a Maricopa County Animal Care and Control employee, posted on a “Save Mickey” Facebook page that the dog would be “going night night.”

The MCACC director says an employee has a right to free speech outside of work.

Authorities say Mickey bit a 4-year-old boy who wandered into the yard and tried to take the dog’s bone.

The boy faces several facial surgeries.

A judge will decide March 13 what will happen to Mickey.

Meanwhile, Mickey’s Facebook page has received more than 34,000 likes.
