PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Education’s lead official on adult and technical education is returning to Rhode Island to highlight President Barack Obama administration’s priorities on workforce development, education and training.

Brenda Dann-Messier will give keynote remarks at the annual Rhode Island Senate Economic Summit scheduled for Monday at the Community College of Rhode Island in Providence.

The summit is titled “Rhode to Work: Meeting the Current and Future Job Training Needs of Rhode Island.” It will feature discussion on workforce development as well as career and technical education. It will conclude with a panel of education, workforce development and business representatives.

Dann-Messier established the Rhode Island Welcome Back Center - a program that assists immigrant professionals resuming work in their careers - and served as a member of the Rhode Island Board of Governors of Higher Education.
