PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police have launched a manhunt after a gunman kidnapped a woman off the street.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson says that police responded to calls around 1 p.m. Saturday after witnesses saw an armed man force a woman into a car near 67th Avenue between Camelback and Indian School roads.

He says the woman in her 20s was walking when a white Chevrolet Cavalier pulled up behind her. Thompson says she “screamed and fought” but he got her into the car and drove off.

She has shoulder-length black hair and wore a black tank top, jean skirt, black leggings and pink shoes. The man in his 20s is 5 feet 8, 160 pounds and wore a black shirt and jeans.

Police urge anyone with information to call the Violent Crimes Bureau at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
