COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Wintry conditions have delayed the earliest dates on the Department of Natural Resources’ schedule for stocking rainbow trout at lakes throughout Ohio this year.

The state agency had planned to stock Adams Lake in Adams County and Barnesville Reservoir No. 3 in Belmont County Friday. It decided to postpone those dates until later in March because of recent heavy snow and unsafe conditions for trout stocking at those ice-covered areas.

The department says at least 98,000 rainbow trout will be released at 63 public lakes and ponds this spring.

Those releases are now scheduled to begin next Thursday and Friday at locations in Lake, Meigs, Perry and Preble counties. The stocking dates continue through mid-May.

The department says the daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.
