CLEVELAND (AP) - Ohio communities are stepping up efforts to enroll their residents in health care coverage ahead of an important federal deadline this month.
By March 31, nearly everyone in the United States is required to be signed up for health insurance or risk paying a fine under the health overhaul.
The leader of Ohio’s largest county says residents will have the chance this month to enroll at county facilities that include the probate court and justice center.
Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Executive Ed FitzGerald said those seeking coverage can meet with people trained in navigating the federal insurance marketplace.
In Columbus, Mayor Michael Coleman says the city will partner with the nonprofit Enroll America to help spread the word.
More than 1.5 million Ohio residents, or about 14 percent, lack insurance.
