MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - Crystal Dangerfield and Alex Johnson scored 19 points apiece to lead Blackman past Memphis Ridgeway 65-44 Saturday for the TSSAA Class AAA girls state championship and the 14-year-old school’s first state team title in any sport.
MeMe Jackson added 14 points for the top-ranked Lady Blaze (34-1), who also are No. 1 in two national polls.
Brandi Beasley led the seventh-ranked Roadrunners (30-4) with 16 points. Oreonna Brown added 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Dangerfield, a sophomore who played on the U.S. U16 national team, hit two straight jumpers during an early 8-0 run for a 10-2 Blackman lead. Beasley’s floater cut it to 13-7 before tourney MVP Dangerfield started off the second quarter with a 3-pointer on the way to a 31-16 halftime lead.
Jackson sank her second 3 to open the fourth quarter during a 11-2 spurt that made it 49-25.
Riverdale’s Alexa Middleton, a Tennessee signee, won the AAA Miss Basketball award.
