PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Portland police have banned overnight camping under a bridge that is host to a number of homeless people after a 39-year-old man was stabbed.

A driver initially thought Bryce Powers had been hit by a car when he was spotted on Friday night.

But police found him with stab wounds that police say are life-threatening.

Detectives learned that Powers was involved in an argument with other homeless men that escalated under the Burnside Bridge in downtown Portland.

He was stabbed and walked away, only to collapse on a waterfront street.

Portland police say they will work with social service agencies to recommend shelters or other alternatives for those needing a place to sleep.
