PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona will pay nearly $100,000 to a former attorney general’s office investigator who claimed Attorney General Tom Horne retaliated against her for telling the FBI he may have violated campaign finance laws.
Friday’s federal court filing by lawyers for Margaret “Meg” Hinchley, Horne, Chief Deputy Attorney General Richard Bistrow and the state say the case will be dismissed with the agreement. Horne and Bistrow were dropped as defendants in the deal.
The $99,999.99 settlement is 1 cent below the amount requiring Horne to agree. Spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham says he would not and the state agreed to the deal.
Hinchley’s lawyer says she’s satisfied, although she originally asked for $10 million.
Horne is awaiting a verdict after a civil trial last month on campaign finance allegations prompted by Hinchley’s FBI complaint.
