SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah’s unemployment has dropped below 4 percent for the first time from since November 2008.
The Department of Workforce Services announced Friday that January’s jobless rate fell two-tenths of a percent to 3.9 percent.
Utah’s rate has remained well below the national rate, which dropped slightly in January to 6.6 percent.
Gov. Gary Herbert held a news conference Friday morning to celebrate the numbers, which he called a milestone and a good sign for the rest of 2014.
DWS reports Utah added 34,700 more jobs in January than in the same month a year earlier.
Officials say the largest job gains were in leisure and hospitality, which added 5,900 jobs.
Trade, transportation and utilities added another 5,400 jobs and professional and business services another 4,500 jobs.
