INZELL, Germany (AP) - Heather Richardson of the United States edged local favorite Judith Hesse by one hundredth of a second to claim her first speedskating World Cup win over 500 meters on Friday.
Brittany Bowe finished third in the women’s 1500 meters as the American speedskaters recovered from the disappointment of their medal shutout at the Sochi Olympics with two podium places.
Richardson won in 37.85 seconds to move behind South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa in the overall standings. Olga Fatkulina of Russia was third, 0.04 seconds behind.
Olympic silver medalist Ireen Wust of the Netherlands won the 1500 meters in 1 minute, 54.03 seconds, ahead of compatriot Lotte van Beek by 0.67 seconds. Bowe was 1.03 behind.
Dutchman Jorrit Bergsma won the men’s 5000 in 6:14.08, beating Norway’s Sverre Lunde Pedersen and Germany’s Patrick Beckert.
