COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A new report says South Carolina faces a shortfall of college educated workers over the next 15 years or so.
The report by economists at the University of South Carolina finds that the state, at current graduation rates, will need an additional 44,000 workers with two-year degrees as well as an additional 70,000 with four-year degrees by 2030 to maintain economic growth.
The report found that the greatest need for college-educated workers will be in nursing. Other fields that will need additional workers include school teachers and accountants.
The report was compiled for the group Competing Through Knowledge which brings together South Carolinians from different fields to make recommendations on needed changes in the state’s education system.
