OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has identified an Okmulgee man who was shot and killed by a police officer.

The OSBI said Friday that 28-year-old James E. Stutchman died at the scene of Thursday’s shooting in Okmulgee.

Investigators say Stutchman refused to stop his 1993 Yukon sports utility vehicle for police and then exited his vehicle with a gun. OSBI says that’s when Okmulgee police shot and killed the man.

The names of the officers involved have not been released. Also under investigation is how many officers fired their weapons.

OSBI detective plan to compile the findings of their investigation into a prosecution report that will be handed to the district attorney office, which will determine whether the shooting was justified.
