BRUSSELS, Ill. (AP) - Two ferries that regularly cross the Illinois River in western Illinois are back in business after being shut down due to adverse river conditions.
The Illinois Department of Transportation on Thursday announced the Brussels ferry reopened after being shut down since Feb. 27 because of river ice. The Kampsville ferry resumed operations Wednesday after a three-day closure.
The department says users of both ferries should prepare for occasional closures because of continuing cold weather and lingering ice upstream. Motorists at those times are urged to consider the Hardin Bridge to reach Calhoun County.
