HONOLULU (AP) - The state Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee is rejecting a bar association’s “unqualified” rating of the governor’s pick for the Hawaii Supreme Court.

The Hawaii State Bar Association had concluded that Circuit Judge Michael Wilson isn’t qualified for the job. Despite that, the senate committee recommended Wilson’s confirmation as an associate justice on the high court.

But the Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://ow.ly/ulYPH ) reports the confirmation hearing exposed questions about Wilson’s personal life. Wilson told senators he believes questions about his personal life led to the bar association’s negative rating.

The bar association doesn’t disclose reasons for its ratings.

Committee Chairman Clayton Hee says the full senate will wait until later this month to take the confirmation vote. He says that will give people time to substantiate rumors about Wilson’s character.
