Former Arkansas governor and erstwhile presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee threw out red meat to social conservatives Friday morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), saying religious liberty must not be impeded by government and Americans need to remember the United States was founded by God.
“If this nation forgets our God, then God will have every right to forget us,” he said.
Mr. Huckabee also said mothers and fathers raise their children better than the government ever will and that life begins at conception.
A society that sacrifices its children, he said, is “no better than the ancient Philistines.”
Mr. Huckabee also blasted the Obama administration for its surveillance programs, heath care overhaul, and what he called a feckless foreign policy that has failed to move people like Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“No one listens to us. No one respects us. No one fears us,” he said.

As for the federal government, he also said that no government policy, such as Mr. Obama’s health care overhaul, should infringe on religious liberties.
“Religious liberty should be unimpeded in this nation,” he said.
