NBC is fending off claims circulating through the media that the dramatic case of pink eye that drove Bob Costas from his Olympics broadcast perch was due to Botox injections.

The prime-time host was forced to step away from his NBC slot for six days, after receiving a conjunctivitis diagnosis in both eyes that was so noticeable, fans focused more on his appearance than on the content of his broadcast reports. A source recently told the New York Post that “Bob’s eye infection was due to botched Botox. This isn’t the first time he’s had it.”

But NBC has launched into denial mode.

“This has zero truth to this. Zero,” a NBC Sports spokesperson said, to the paper.

Doctors, meanwhile, say it’s extremely uncommon to get pink eye from Botox — but not impossible.
