SEATTLE (AP) - A Seattle City Council vote regulating popular app-based rideshare companies has been postponed until March 17. The vote was originally scheduled for next Monday.
The City Council announced the delay on Thursday, saying that one of the council members will be out of town.
After months of debate, rallies and lobbying, Seattle lawmakers have finally settled on a proposal that would limit each rideshare company to 150 cars at any given time. The proposal would also require minimum insurance. UberX, Lyft and Sidecar all operate in Seattle, meaning there would be about 450 of those cars at any given time. The plan was approved by a sub-committee and it’s not expected to change for the full council vote.
Taxi companies and rideshare outfits have both said they don’t agree with the proposal.
