VATICAN DELEGATION COMING TO PHILADELPHIA FOR EIGHTH WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES NEXT YEAR
Archbishop Charles Chaput will be joined by Gov. Tom Corbett and Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Friday to discuss whether Pope Francis will be among those attending the meeting in September 2015.
EVERYBODY’S UPSET EXCEPT THE PEOPLE ACTUALLY AFFECTED
Chevron’s decision to offer free pizza coupons to residents of a southwestern Pennsylvania community where a gas well exploded last month is being criticized by activists, blogs and even Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert. But the 750 residents of Bobtown, where the worker was killed, aren’t upset at all. Chevron says the coupons were meant to compensate the village for increased traffic in the explosion’s aftermath.
IF PHILADELPHIA PRIEST IS CHILD MOLESTER, WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE VICTIM?
A jury will continue trying to answer that question raised by the defense attorney for the Rev. Andrew McCormick. The priest denies molesting a former altar boy whose mother had sought his counsel, thinking her 10-year-old son was gay. Others who knew the priest as children have testified he never harmed them.
GOV. TOM CORBETT SIGNALS HE’LL DROP ONE OBJECTION HE HAS TO ACCEPTING BILLIONS OF MEDICAID EXPANSION DOLLARS
Until this week, the Corbett administration had sought to require able-bodied, working-age Pennsylvanians to complete certain work-search activities before receiving coverage under the 2010 federal health care law. Now Corbett wants federal approval to try a one-year voluntary incentive pilot program for able-bodied adults.
SUPERIOR COURT PANEL SAY FORMER STATE SEN. JANE ORIE’S CAMPAIGN CORRUPTION CONVICTION WAS LEGAL
The Pittsburgh-area Republican was convicted in 2012 and sentenced to 2½ to 10 years in prison. She was released from prison last month but had hoped the appeal would clear her name - and, perhaps, salvage her pension.
