MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Two teenagers were sentenced to 17 years in prison each after pleading guilty to shooting an elderly woman and forcing her to crawl through her house to retrieve a purse.
Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich says 16-year-old Christopher Bell and 18-year-old Iran White will not be eligible for parole.
The pair pleaded guilty Wednesday to especially aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony.
The charges stem from a Nov. 27, 2012 incident when the pair went to the woman’s house in Memphis and forced their way in before Bell shot the 72-year-old retired schoolteacher in the lower back.
White admitted to being a lookout, but told a judge Bell fired the weapon.
