NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin N. Gusman says there were 895 arrests during the 2014 Mardi Gras season that started Feb. 21 and ended Tuesday.
Of those arrests, Gusman’s office said in a news release Thursday that 440 were made on state charges, 330 on municipal charges and 125 for traffic violations. Charges ranged from lewd conduct, public drunkenness and disturbing the peace to more serious violations, including arrests for illegal drugs or violent crime.
The sheriff’s office said its Mobile Communications Unit and Mardi Gras alternate Intake and Processing Compound processed a combined 527 total arrests.
Additionally, the sheriff’s office says it provided deputies for crowd control, security at Gallier Hall, and escorts for many parades.
