Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said Thursday that despite some recent jockeying and perceived turmoil in the Republican party, the GOP is “where the action is” and “the center of gravity is shifting.”
“Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s here to start a career and who’s here to serve a cause,” he said at the 2014 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). “But the true test is not what specific path you take - it’s whether you move the country in the right direction.”
“And we will,” he said.
“The conservative, modern, reform agenda” is now taking shape across the country — from governorships to Tea Party groups, he said.
As a few examples, Mr. Ryan pointed to the tax reform “discussion draft” from House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, Michigan Republican, and the push for increased school choice from people like House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican, and Sen. Tim Scott, South Carolina Republican.
“Once again, the GOP is where the action is - just as it was in Jack Kemp’s day at the beginning of the Reagan Revolution,” he said. “It’s messy. It’s noisy. And it’s a little bit uncomfortable. But the center of gravity is shifting.”
