Rep. Alan Grayson — the Floridian who once famously declared in the lead-up to Obamacare’s passage that Republicans’ idea of health care was for the sick and elderly to die — is now rocking national headlines for a different reason: Domestic dispute charges.
His wife, Lolita Grayson, recently claimed that he pushed and injured her during a recent altercation.
A judge in Florida granted her request for a temporary protective injunction against him — but now Mr. Grayson is fighting back. His attorneys say they have a video that shows he was the victim, not the perpetrator, Mediaite reported.
Mrs. Grayson’s injunction says Mr. Grayson has “battered and threatened” her children, and that he physically prevented her from leaving their home on at least one prior occasion.
But attorneys for Mr. Grayson say they shot cell phone video of the couple’s most recent dispute — and that it was actually Mrs. Grayson who kept her husband from entering the home.
The video reportedly also shows Mrs. Grayson shoving her husband away from the door, Mediaite reported.
The video was shot at Mr. Grayson’s request. He asked one of his aides to go to the home with him on Saturday and take video, in case his wife starting “acting erratically” again — something he claims she’s done frequently since their divorce proceedings kicked off.
Mr. Grayson made a brief public statement about his wife’s allegations and injunction this week: “It simply isn’t the way she described it. She hit me and I retreated. That’s what happened. She’s simply lying,” Mediaite reported.
