DENVER (AP) - Authorities say recently discovered remains are likely those of a Denver woman who disappeared nearly three years ago.

Denver police said Thursday DNA tests showed a possible match between the remains and 38-year-old Amy Ahonen (ah-HOHN’-en), who was last seen at her home in July 2011 before she left for a hike near Clear Creek.

A roommate reported her missing. Ahonen’s car was found unlocked with her belongings inside on U.S. 6 between Golden and Interstate 70. Volunteers canvassed the area and circulated fliers.

Authorities said at the time they did not suspect foul play and were investigating her disappearance as a missing persons case.

Denver Police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said Thursday the remains were found outside of Denver, but she did not have enough information to elaborate.
