BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - Porsche’s new hybrid sports cars are arriving aboard ships docking at the Port of Brunswick.

The Georgia Ports Authority says the first shipment of the Porsche 918 Spyder arrived Tuesday. The German-manufactured cars, which retail at prices starting at $845,000, are headed to U.S. markets across the Southeast.

The Spyder is billed as a plug-in hybrid capable of accelerating from a full stop to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, but with a fuel economy estimated at 67 miles per gallon. Porsche says it plans to produce no more than 918 of these high-performance hybrids. It’s unknown how many will be shipped to the U.S.

Brunswick has become one of the nation’s busiest ports for auto imports and exports. It already handles 23 percent of Porsche’s total U.S. imports.
