ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (AP) - A 55-year-old man has admitted stealing at total of $1 million from a Long Island couple, two insurance companies and the state labor department.
Prosecutors say 55-year-old Gerard Timoney pleaded guilty to grand larceny on Wednesday. He’s a former policy issuing agent and ex-owner of TitleGuard Land Services Inc.
According to Newsday (https://bit.ly/1qaI2b6 ), he collected nearly $34,000 in unemployment benefits after his business closed due to criminal misconduct.
Prosecutors say he stole another $37,000 meant to pay property taxes on behalf two homeowners. They say he also stole $870,000 meant for recording deeds and mortgages.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says Timoney “repeatedly abused the trust, not only of homeowners and companies, but of taxpayers.”
