FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a Florence County deputy has shot at a man who was trying to run him over.

Capt. Michael Nunn says a deputy was trying to stop a driver around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. The driver refused to stop and led the deputy on a chase before eventually hitting a home with his vehicle.

The deputy got out of his patrol car, and Nunn says the man tried to run him over. Nunn says the deputy fired several times in self-defense.

Two people in the car were taken to the hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds.

The deputy has been placed on leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates.
